  • Jim Bouton passed away on Wednesday.

His book "Ball Four" is really great reading for anybody who loves baseball and the characters who inhabit the sport, then and now.

I read it back in the day when the book was a big deal ... I have a feeling that anyone reading it for the first time now won't be all that amazed that Seattle's manager cussed like he was in the cast of Deadwood or that Mickey Mantle drank and wasn't nice to kids all the time.

        Great book!

I must have read it two or three times when I was a kid.
